Arrived in Salzburg!
We unfortunately, due to train issues, missed our reservation for the concert at the Hohensalzburg Fortress, arriving at the hotel at the time the concert had started. It was a gamble but that's travel!
We added on an extra night at the RS chosen hotel, Hotel Hofwirt; we appreciated the warm welcome and the clean cool room after a long day of train travel.

Evening Walk around the City
Dinner outside at Restaurant Herzl
As night was starting to fall on this beautiful city, we walked by this patio and decided we deserved a nice sit down meal. This is restaurant Herzl, (here since 1569!)and we truly enjoyed it. The servers were very kind to us weary travelers and provided a lovely meal of Viennese schnitzel with parsley potatoes and Nuremberg bratwurst with fermented with cabbage and potatoes with local Stiegel beer, of course. The dessert below was heavenly; the Herzl Parfait is a raspberry parfait paired with mint caviar. An excellent start to our Salzburg adventures!
Herbert von Karajan Square & the “Horse Pond”
Herbert von Karajan Square is named after Salzburg-born conductor of the same name. This dates back to the 17th century where "parade horses from the prince-archbishops’ stables used to be washed off and groomed." Behind it sits the Mönchsberg cliffs, its night-time glow providing a dramatic vibe.
